I was born and raised in western South Dakota. I found studio arts after a career in show business. After relocating to the Santa Cruz area I began studying drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. Santa Cruz is a wonderful place for artists. There are many great teachers and inspiration from nature all around us.
My recent works include two abstract series. In the first, I was inspired by the monoprinting process. It is always a surprise to reveal how a pattern of paint can dash or burst onto the paper and then it's a delight collaging the papers together in a pleasing way. Over the top of this I began layers of painting and mark making.
The second series is loosely based on florals. Again, I used pattern and color as a vehicle for composition. I find abstraction challenging and rewarding.
In addition to my abstact work I have had the pleasure of painting pet portraits for people who want a fun artifact of their pet.
I hope you enjoy my works as much as I enjoyed making them.
